The Five Reasons Your Best Employees May Jump Ship and How to Prevent It

TINYpulse recently published the results of 400,000 survey responses about workplace issues from employees at 500 companies around the world.  Combined with other sources, here are the top five influences on retention:

  1. Colleagues: 51% of workers say that their colleagues are the top thing they love about work.
  2. Potential: 70% of workers said they feel they are not living up to their full potential – and almost a quarter of those employees say workplace distractions keep them from reaching their full potential.
  3. Professional Growth: Only 25% of workers say they have strong opportunities for professional growth – troubling news for workplaces rich with millennials who demand professional growth and development.
  4. Productivity Killers: 35% of workers cite lack of follow-through and communication from colleagues as a reason why they’re not more productive.
  5. High levels of workplace stress: 40% of workers reported their job was very or extremely stressful; 25% view their jobs as the number one stressor in their lives.

It is estimated that 1/4 of employees would quit for a 10% raise.  Numerous studies by the Gallup Organization conclude that the majority of employees jump ship because of their manager and the environment created by “bad bosses”.
